Tying tips: Tapering the body down towards the tail is key. Dub the thorax around the legs and post, try to make sure you keep it the same thickness as the beginning of your tail. Set the legs like you would for a Madame X, make sure you set the length and if you feel the need you can whip finish twice to keep them in place. When you knot the legs be sure to knot them so that the legs look natural and are even on both sides. Tie both the wing and underwing in over the where you tied the legs in and set the post/hackle, dub around it and wrap. This fly will sit low and cast a silhouette that looks like a stone or a hopper.

Fishing Notes:
This fly is easy to fish, see, and perfect for fishing a dropper off of. This is a good "go to fly" for those freestone rivers, like the Yakima or the Madison, or big terrestrial spring creeks like Rocky Ford. It imitates a stone and a hopper, and will do well fishing those banks and brushy overhangs. If you are going to fish it like a hopper, try bouncing it of a brushy bank and letting it plop down with a splash. If imitating a stonefly cast it upstream and mend so that it drifts drag free through the run. Generally the bugs this imitates are going to be seen along the banks and through short runs/riffles, so work it through and possibly twitch it to urge fish to come to the surface.
