Hook: TMC 5263 or Daiichi 1720 #2-6
Tail: Krystal Flash, purple
Body: Diamond Braid, Purple
Wings: Matched Mottled Oak Turkey wing quills, painted
w/head cement
Head & Collar: Spun deer hair, purple. Trimmed
to shape and to open hook gape at bottom
Thread: 3/0 or 6/0 purple
Tying tip:
If you don't view spinning deer hair as the tying equivalent
to changing a tire with your bare hands, it's a fun fly to
tie and fish. Effective in a variety of colors and configurations,
so don't limit yourself to just purple. Painting the turkey
quills with some head cement prior to tying them in will help
their longevity and make tying them in evenly vastly easier.
Fishing Notes:
Another great summer steelhead/big trout pattern.
You can fish this one right in the surface film, deep on a
sink-tip, or dressed right up on top with a wake chasing it.
